(From For Belonging, To bless the space between Us, John O’Donohue )
I’m a mixed media artist, working in collage, acrylic, gouache and a little bit of sparkle. The quote above perfectly sums up my love of painting and creating something with my hands, heart and soul. I have always had creative projects alongside my main work, but began painting when I took some intuitive painting classes online following the birth of my twin boys in 2012. The classes were an opportunity to step aside from the routines and rituals of motherhood and allow me to recharge and restore. I’d describe myself as a seeker out of the magical, the beautiful and the joyful. I feel like painting is leading me back home to myself, to the new me that is both mama and painter.
Having been out of the workplace for several years I found I was starting to doubt myself and faced increasing anxiety about the simple everyday things of life. My tagline, “Art of the singing soul” sums up both what I paint, and how I work as an artist. It’s an art, to truly find things which inspire you and which you want to share with the world.
I paint what makes me happy and what makes our world beautiful. I paint to celebrate the good and the love around us. You’ll see these themes throughout my work and my writing and my images. Things that make my soul sing
· Family, friendship and celebrations
· Our natural world – seasons changing, trees, leaves and flowers.
· The seaside and coast
· Sacred inspirations – labyrinths, mandalas, and spirals.
I’d describe my style as colourful, joyful, meditative and quirky. I’m inspired by our amazing natural world, especially the estuary coastline I live by in Essex and the parks, fields and hills and mountains we have in the UK. I love the changing seasons, especially spring and autumn when there is such a tangible sense of change in the world and when the colours are so vivid.
